Does coffee protect against heart attacks or strokes?

QUESTION:

Does coffee keep you from having a stroke or heart attack by drinking just a few cups a day, like 2-3 cups?

ANSWER:

First, the disclaimer. I’m not a doctor and am not an authority on anything to do with your health. Self-treat with coffee at your own risk!

With that out of the way, there is some evidence that coffee can help prevent the onset of heart disease and reduce the likelihood of heart attacks.

In a couple of studies I have across, one that studied the over-65s and the other focusing on women, they both observed that drinking a few cups of coffee each day did seem to reduce mortality from heart attacks.

As for strokes, I don’t know. If anyone has any information on studies that have been done on coffee and strokes, I would love to hear about it.
