Freezing coffee beans for storage

by Rev Bud
(Kenosha, Wisconsin)

QUESTION:

Years ago I started freezing my whole coffee beans as a storage method. Each morning I measure out the amount I want and grind them still frozen. I am still satisfied with this method of storage. However, I have not seen it discussed elsewhere. Doing so does extend the period of "freshness", right?

ANSWER:

Yes, you're right. Freezing whole coffee beans will keep them fresh for several months.

Just be sure to keep them in a sealed container or bag. What you don't want to happen is have your beans get "frosted" with little ice particles.

So long as the container is sealed tight, freezing your beans is the right thing to do.

Although, of course, buying them fresh every week is even better!
