How many cups of coffee can one drink in a day?

by joy
(philippines)

QUESTION:

Is drinking more than 1 cup of coffee a day bad for one's health?? Thanks!

ANSWER:

No, it isn’t. In fact, drinking several cups of coffee a day confers a variety of health benefits.

For example, one major scientific study showed that for every 2 cups of coffee consumed per day, there was a 43-percent reduced risk of liver cancer.

In another example, Gary Arendash, a researcher at the Byrd Alzheimer's Institute in Tampa, Florida, says giving mice with Alzheimer's the human equivalent of five cups of coffee, or 500 grams of caffeine, a day has plaque-busting effects and reverses symptoms of impaired memory in aging Alzheimer's mice.

And in another study... researchers found that for men, those who drank more than six cups of caffeinated coffee per day reduced their risk for type 2 diabetes by more than 50 percent compared to men in the study who didn’t drink coffee.

Put simply, coffee is good for you, and drinking four or five cups of coffee a day will do you no harm, unless your doctor specifically tells you otherwise.
