Is being a coffee addict a problem?

by Shela Pinoy
(Philippines)

QUESTION:

What is really the effect of coffee with the teenagers? Is it good or bad? Because whenever I'm reading books or something, I always drink coffee. Then my mom would always say that it will make our brain not to be functioning well.. but it doesn't make sense.. because based from our lessons in school that coffee was mixed up with caffeine that makes a person alert and alive.. Thanks!

ANSWER:

Well, you know how it is with moms. They always worry about you, especially when you are a teenager!

But you are right, drinking coffee can be a big help when studying. It does help you concentrate and sharpen your focus. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that if you drink coffee in the evenings it can disrupt your sleep patterns. Many people think that the caffeine is out of their systems in an hour or so. Not true. The effects of caffeine can be felt for several hours after your last coffee.

If you want to give your mom some reading on the positive side of drinking coffee, have her look through our coffee benefits page.
