Melitta makes the very best...coffee!

by Cynthia Youritzin
(Norman, OK USA)

Many, many years ago I received an offer from Gevalia Kaffe that I couldn't resist: a pound of coffee and a Melitta coffeemaker for $10.00, with no further obligation.

The coffeemaker and coffee arrived within ten days, and I discovered that, while the pre-ground Gevalia coffee tasted pretty stale, the coffeemaker was stellar. It is a small, plastic four-cup unit with a glass carafe. The filter holder screws onto the top of the carafe.

I like to grind my own coffee beans fresh every time I make coffee. (My mother had an original Melitta coffee pot from Germany, and she taught me how to make coffee, which I have been drinking since I was five.) Anyway, in the Melitta tradition, I grind the beans very, very fine, almost to a powder. Using a brown paper Melitta filter, I put the ground coffee into the filter holder on the carafe, and add purified cold water to the tank on the side of the coffeemaker. All I have to do then is turn the machine on, and it does all the work. Voila! Coffee. Very, very hot coffee. No problems with temperature here.

Everyone who has tasted a cup of coffee made by this machine invariably exclaims, "That's the best coffee I ever had!" Although I do not have access to the world's finest coffee beans, even supermarket beans wind up tasting superior. I attribute this to the fine grind of the coffee, the filtered water, and the Melitta method.

This coffeemaker has lasted me for about twenty years now. Best deal EVER.
