Re-running the coffee maker.

QUESTION:

Hi,

This may sound gross, but I was wondering if there was any harm in adding more water to the coffee maker to make coffee using "spent" grounds. My roommate uses a lot of coffee to make a strong brew and I have been putting more water through her grounds to get a coffee that is strong enough for me. Is there any harmful leaching I need to be worried about? Thanks!

ANSWER:

Don’t worry about it. You’re not the first.

More than a few of us have woken up to find the coffee can empty, and then reached down to pull yesterday’s wet coffee filter from the garbage. Now that’s gross! But it won’t do you any harm.

Your brew will be weaker and maybe a little more bitter... but you’ll survive! : )
