Should I buy a Flavia coffee maker?

QUESTION:
I want to buy a single serve coffee maker as a gift for my parents. I have looked at a few, but wanted to know your opinion of the Flavia coffee maker. Would that be a good choice?
Thanks,
ANSWER:
It really depends on what is important to your parents. If they like to drink coffee most of the time, there are probably better choices.
Flavia calls its coffee maker a "drinks station". That's because the focus isn't just on coffee, but on a much wider range of hot beverages.
Like most single cup brewers, Flavia has its own proprietary system. You can't use loose coffee or coffee pods or K-Cups or T-Discs. You have to use their "Filterpacks".
And as I mentioned, their focus isn’t just on coffee. You can buy filterpacks with coffee, tea, herbal teas, cocoa and some rather more indulgent beverages like "Milky Way Swirl" and "Mars Swirl". (Yes, Flavia is owned by the Mars candy company.)
If that sounds like a good fit for your parents, then go for it. But if their main interest is going to be in brewing great coffee, there are other single cup machines that will suit them better.
You can learn more about the other choices on our single cup brewers page.
