When should a drip coffee maker be replaced?

QUESTION:

We've had our drip coffee maker for many years, and wondering how long they last.

ANSWER:

If it’s still working, and for as long as you like the coffee it makes, there is no reason to replace your coffee maker.

As for how long it will eventually last, that depends a lot on the manufacturer, the model and how often you use it.

If it’s an older machine, my guess is that it will keep working for quite a while. Companies used to make appliances that were built to keep on going indefinitely. (It wasn’t exactly an appliance, but my old 1987 Chevy half-ton just never wanted to quit.)

But for sure, if you’re not happy with the coffee it brews, take a look at something a little newer and a little better.

If you are happy, stick with it. Your next brewer probably won’t last as long!
