New seal for the Sunbeam C-30A vacuum coffee maker?

by Mary
(Harlan, Kansas, USA)

We just purchased a C-30A at auction -- the rubber seal was so hard that it broke. Any ideas on how we can repair? Also, what is the best way to take care of the rubber seal if we get it replaced?

We have never tried the Sunbeam C-30A, but by all accounts it's a wonderful machine and represented quite a breakthrough back in the forties.

There are quite a few of these still around, which is a testament to the quality of construction.

However, the two commonest problems are with the rubber seal and the power cord (which has rubber insulation). The old, vulcanized rubber grows brittle over time and cracks.

Our advice would be to take the brewer and old seal to an appliance repair store and see if they can cut you a new one. Modern seal materials don't have that same cracking problem.

BTW – The Sunbeam C-30A originally came with a tray set included. If you don't have one, keep your eyes open at flea markets and eBay – and you might get lucky.

Great question – and good luck with the brewer!

Sunbeam C20-A Gasket Melt (yum)
by: Greenie

Hi folks,

The gasket on my Sunbeam C20-A was rather cracked, but I gave it a go anyway. Well, it warmed up, the cracks 'healed', but it left a thin, difficult to remove, and fairly yukky residue on my coffee pot rim.

Is there any way to make this gasket stop sticking now that it has no cracks? If not, how do I remove it? I'm ordering a Dayseal replacement just in case.

I ran water through the machine twice, and twice I had a coating of residue from the old gasket.

Thanks for any advice.

To Grandma-FILTER FOR C-30 coffeemaster
by: 4barkingdogs

I ordered the "Yama Reusable Metal Screen/filter Assembly with Long Chain" from Amazon. It comes with a fine mesh filter that you install between the two metal disks. Easy to use and clean.

Does anyone know where I could purchase a filter for the C30C? The screen part has a hole in it big enough that coffee goes through.

to loosen the old seals, heat them up, if you cannot get the pots apart, put them both under the tap on hot for a while, then let sit for a day or so to get the moisture out of the base.

for new seal

to get the siphon cone off, soak in kroil, inthe sun for a few weeks

Run your pot a full cycle w/about 1/2 pot of just water.
The heat should soften the gasket enough to separate the pots

Replacement Parts?
by: Anonymous

I came across this great Sunbeam coffee maker in the back of my pantry when I was cleaning it out. It was all there except for the cord and lid. I was able to find a cord that fits, but I'm now looking for replacement lid. Anyone out there know of a web site or other places that might have one? I've been checking eBay, but mostly I find complete units for sale.

Thanks for your help.

I'm having trouble separating the two parts. Is there a trick or is the seal to blame?

Aftermarket C-30A seal
by: James

A fellow in Florida, operating as, sells all sorts of rubber seals to the original specifications for coffee makers.

I purchased a replacement seal for my C-30A from him, mailing a money order for $25.

He turns the seals out of food-grade silicone, made to the exact measurements of the original seal (without the pesky stiffening metal strip in it). I have been using it since and it works wonderfully.

I also found (quite by accident) that for a replacement filter (since Sunbeam doesn't make them anymore) that the Yama YA-8 Coffee Syphon replacement filter fits adequately (they are available from several different companies on the Web).

We just bought a Sunbeam C-30A for $15.00! It had the original instructions and packet of filters as well as a mesh filter. I sounds like it is going to be very difficult to find parts if needed. This pot is in very good condition but will continue to look for parts.

Thank you!
by: Bruce B - Chicago

Thanks for the link to the Sunbeam C30 vacuum pot coffee maker seals.

After going through several Mr Coffee and other coffee makers, suffering through really bad coffee during the process, we got out the 75 year old Sunbeam C30B and have been using it for more than a year now.

Sunbeam, whose manufacturing plant was located just west of Oak Park on the south side of what is now the Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago, had the coffee brewing technology down to a science and never realized it. These pots make an incredible pot of coffee and the low heat setting keeps the coffee warm, without making it bitter, for hours after the original brew cycle is over.

You can have all of the cheap, plastic, and other contraptions they now refer to as coffee makers. I will keep our Sunbeam C30B working as long as possible because, as far as we are concerned, there is no other coffee maker!

New Seal for C-30A
by: samaiya

Hey I came up with a fix for broken or damaged seals for this coffee maker. You need a rubber ring from a latch front canning jar, you can buy the rings on ebay for about 2.50 for a box of 3 or so.

When you have the ring you can either apply it over the old seal or put it where the seal used to be. If you apply it over the old seal, run the coffeemaker with water a few times and it should completely adhere to the old seal by the 2nd or 3rd time.

I've got one on my coffemaker (applied over the old seal) now and it's been working quite well for a few weeks now.
