The Cona vacuum coffee maker – for a perfect, hands-on coffee making experience.

First of all, a massive thank you to Jan Vlak, owner and director of the Cona Factory in Holland.

He double packed and shipped us the Cona coffee maker you see in our video and photos.

As far as we know, this is the first of these brewers to be seen in Canada. So… doubly precious.

What I love about the Cona Coffee Maker

First of all, I’m a huge fan of great design. And as far as I’m concerned, this is a beautiful thing. It’s a pleasure just to look at it as an object.

The Cona brewer was designed by an English artist named Abram Games, way back in 1947.

Prior to designing this, Games was best known as a graphic designer, creating posters during the war.

But with the Cona, he applied his design skills in a whole different way.

He had a motto, “Maximum meaning. Minimum means.” He was always looking for simple, elegant solutions. And that’s what we see here with the Cona.

Next, the Cona vacuum coffee maker brews wonderful, clean coffee.

Every surface the coffee and water come into contact with is glass, and nothing more. Even the filter, such as it is, is fashioned from a piece of glass.

The fact that the coffee touches only glass means we can depend on a clean taste every time. No plastic tubes or pumps. No paper filters. No rubber tubes. No aluminum. No steel even.

Nothing adds to or takes away from the taste of the ground coffee and water.

If it’s a pure taste you want, this is the brewer to use.

The Cona coffee maker gives you a unique experience, every time.

This isn’t the fastest way to make a cup of coffee. Nor is as convenient or as automated as a single serve brewer, for example.

But it’s pure. It’s just you, the water, the ground coffee, glass surfaces and the flame from the burner.

If you’re willing to spend a few extra minutes, and you truly love coffee, this is an experience to be savored and enjoyed.

As for instructions on how to use the Cona coffee maker, it isn’t complicated. Just follow the process in the video.

You can find more images, videos and images at the Cona website.

And if you’d like a Cona coffee maker yourself, I know the manufacturers are looking for ways to increase distribution across North America.

In the meantime, if you live in the U.S., you can buy one through eBay.
