Which are the top coffee producing countries?

by Ruby
(Singapore)

QUESTION:

I want to know the top ten coffee producing countries in the world, and some information about them.

ANSWER:

Different groups and organizations have slightly different "top 10" lists. But here's a pretty accurate list for you.

Brazil

Colombia

Costa Rica

Indonesia

Vietnam

Mexico

Ethiopia

India

Guatemala

Guinea

Among these, the two really, really big producers are Brazil and Colombia.

You'll find some additional information on some of these countries and their coffees on our Gourmet Coffee page.

Just scroll down to the end of that page and you'll find links to information on Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Sumatra.

Many people agreed that the origin coffee is ETHIOPIA. But I can add this,Ethiopia have different coffee selections than any other country in the world. One of the best coffee types among the local is Harere coffee. Farmers grow this coffee in the shades and only few area is suitable for this coffee. The soil, the weather, the bean is what makes it different than the others. The other best type of coffee is yergachef. This coffee grown in different part of the country with low temperature than harere coffee. The others are Kaffa welga, and so on.

coffee quality and origin
by: Azmera

i can admit that number one coffee producer in the world is Brazil, but i donot have confidence to say coffee is originated from Brazil, moreover i want to say some thing about the origin
Ethiopia has about 86 ethinc group and she is the one multi ethinic group society among few countrys which have the same situation of dhuman diversity, kaffa is one of the ethinic group or society in south western part of Ethiopia and coffee arabica was originated from this area, after this emergence of the coffee variety the name was given as coffee for beans. so far coffee is originated from Kaffa and the name is assured as coffee, this is the story in short where coffee is found, finally i would like to tell you those guys who have intention to vist Ethiopia please again visit Kaffa the home land of coffee, and again visit Sheka which is densely forested area among the top forest country's in the world like Amazon forest besides this the Jungle forest is also covered by coffee tree
see you guys in Ethiopia, the most beautiful and respectiful country in Africa as well as never colonized country in the world

Get your facts right and please put somebody that actually KNOWS about coffee
by: coffee connoisseur

People may differ on which is the best coffee because it depends if you like a bitter tasting, or more sweet tasting or a more balance full bodied flavor. But in fact the best coffees in the world overall would be
1 Colombia (best overall taste-only country that can produce all year long)
2 Brazil (may find a great variety of different tastes from strong, to balanced full bodied, but overall great coffee)
3costa Rica(similar to the colombian coffee overall taste)
4Jamaica (bluemountain coffee, one of the greatest but low supply due to limited terrain)
5Guatemala(great if you like strong bitter tasting coffee)
6 Kenya(top of the line bitter strong tasting coffee)
7 Honduras(balanced strong full bodied taste)

and the rest of them are way below the quality of these first 6 so the rest you can choose yourself.
THIS IS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO READ THIS WEBSITE. THIS WEBSITES RANKING IS FOR TOP P-R-O-D-U-C-E-R-S OF COFFEE MEANING THAT THEY PRODUCE A LOT OF COFFEE BUT DOESN'T MEAN IS ONE OF THE BEST IN QUALITY,AS YOU MAY KNOW, MEXICO AND VIETNAM ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST PRODUCERS OF COFFEE BUT IN TERMS OF QUALITY...NOT SO GOOD, THE QUALITY OF MEXICOS AND VIETNAMS COFFEE IS WAY BELOW THE QUALITY OF THE 7 I MENTIONED ABOVE.

Good Coffee
by: AnayaOlme

It doesn't matter where coffee comes from. What matters is how it is grown and the elements it grows under. Coffee grown north of the Ecuator and south of Tropic of Cancer are the best. It is its volcanic soils, the altitutes, the shadings, the amount of rain, its tropical moisture, chemical free conditions, and it's human care that matters. Next time you grab a cup of coffee, think of all these details, and if the country of origin meets expectations, then it is a matter of taste.

Is this bean (Arabica) really from the country of Colombia?

Editor's Note: Arabica is a description of the type of bean, not the country of origin. Arabica coffee beans can be grown in any coffee-growing country or region.
